Trumpeter Dave Douglas has a new band, with no piano, guitar or bass: “Brass Conclave” puts his trumpet alongside two trombones, a tuba and drums. Greenleaf Music, the label he founded, announced it on 2 November as this year’s release for its subscribers, who can already download it.
The trombonists are Andy Clausen and Jacob Garchik, with Marcus Rojas on tuba and Nasheet Waits on drums. The album has eleven tracks: compositions by Douglas and Clausen, and reworkings of pieces by Thelonious Monk and Johann Sebastian Bach. It was recorded in the studio with Tyler McDiarmid.
Tier 2 and 3 subscribers will also get the CD when they renew, from 1 November. The label hasn’t said whether, or when, it will go on sale to everyone else.
