Jack Donovan, the bassist of Elder, is home and recovering from open-heart surgery. The band said so on Friday, fifteen days after he was admitted to hospital in Portland.
“Dear world, Jack is back!” the statement begins. “15 days ago, we were in the middle of our North American tour with @blackwaterholylight in Portland when Jack suddenly became violently sick. Friends got him to the ER where he was then moved to an ICU unit and diagnosed with pneumonia, put on a ventilator and sedated. We literally have their quick action to thank for his life.”
The pneumonia was not the cause of anything. “Over the coming days we learned that Jack had been struggling with some serious congenital heart issues for some time, which were actually the root cause of his illness,” the text goes on. Donovan had surgery and left hospital after two weeks. The band thanks the team at the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
The American stops postponed in September —Seattle, Denver, Chicago, New York and the rest— still have no new dates: “As far as the postponed shows go, we are VERY CLOSE to having makeup dates rescheduled and will be announcing them as soon as we can.”
The February 2027 European run is unaffected. It is twenty-one dates, from 3 February in Oberhausen to the 27th in London, with Temple Fang supporting and Rezn on the five UK shows; none of them is in Spain. Elder’s latest album is “Through Zero”, released on 29 May this year.
