Enigmatic Sound Machines, the Montreal project of Jeremie Arrobas and Thomas Szirmay, released their fourth album, “Divided By One”, on 5 June 2026 through the US label ProgRock.com’s Essentials, on CD (with booklet) and digital. Among its nine tracks are “Chaos Dreaming”, “Sirensong” and “Inviolate Fields”, and it closes with a cover of Gary Numan’s “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?”, which the band announced as the first single. The previous album, “Imperfect Silence”, came out on 1 August 2025.
With this record the duo becomes a quartet: Arrobas (lead vocals, synths, synth guitars and sound machines), Szirmay (sound machines and vocals), Alain Bellaiche (guitars and backing vocals) and Hansford Rowe (bass and backing vocals). Bellaiche and Rowe had already contributed to the two previous albums. Guests are Laura Piazzai (vocals), Steve Bonino and Roland Buhlmann (electric guitar), Anna Arrobas (vocals) and Quinn Bachand (violin). Arrobas wrote all the music except the Numan song, and the lyrics are by Arrobas and Szirmay. The band produced it; Arrobas, Ian Beabout and Rowe mixed it, and Beabout mastered it.
