Fake Names release “Punk Ruins” on 23 October through Epitaph and have shared “If You Could See Me Today”, the ninth of the twelve tracks, with a lyric video. It is the band’s third record, after the self-titled debut and “Expendables”.
They cut it at Electrical Audio in Chicago with Matthew Barnhart producing — the same man who has worked with Superchunk and Bob Mould — and they did it fast. “We recorded 12 songs in five days, and all of them are on the album,” guitarist Brian Baker says. “It’s not as hard as you think.”
Baker puts it down to how the material was prepared: “One of the advantages of us all working at home is there’s plenty of time to figure out what you’re going to do. I know what the guitar solo is going to be because I’ve already done it at home and sent it to Michael to tweak it.”
Dennis Lyxzén, of Refused and INVSN, sings. Baker comes from Minor Threat, Dag Nasty and Bad Religion; second guitarist Michael Hampton from S.O.A. and Embrace; bassist Johnny Temple from Girls Against Boys and Soulside, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba from Rocket From The Crypt and OFF!.
The European tour is ten dates across January and February 2027: it opens on 26 January in Umeå and takes in Paris, Cologne, Munich, Milan, Ljubljana, Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin and London, where it ends on 7 February. There is no Spanish date.
