Schema Records releases “Love’s Gravity” on 13 November, a single by Cosmic Renaissance, the project led and produced by trombonist Gianluca Petrella. Jack Bloom sings it and wrote the lyrics; the music is credited to Petrella and J. S. L. Abate.
It was recorded at Blue Spirit Studio in Milan with Francesco Borrelli at the desk. Borrelli and Petrella share the mix, and Pino Pischetola did the tape mastering at Pinaxa Studios. Petrella plays synth, trombone and Fender Rhodes and writes the arrangements; he is joined by Mirco Rubegni on trumpet, Riccardo Di Vinci on electric bass, Simone Padovani on percussion and Federico Scettri on drums. The artwork is by Samuele Panetta.
The label describes it as a return to 1970s soul-jazz and jazz-funk, built on a repeating choral refrain, and places it close to certain Blue Note and CTI productions. That the master was cut to tape fits the operation: the single is not after the sound of a 1970s reconstruction but of a 1970s recording. “Love’s Gravity” is the starting point for “Echoes of Time”, an album Schema has pencilled in for 2027 and for which no date has yet been given.
