Jello Biafra has given the San Francisco Giants archives a twelve-inch, 78rpm reference acetate of Russ Hodges’ radio call of Bobby Thomson’s home run, the one from 3 October 1951 that won the National League pennant for the Giants, then of New York.
The club received it on 3 October, seventy-five years to the day after the play, and has already digitised it. The Giants introduced the donor as “a longtime #SFGiants fan”.
The Dead Kennedys singer is recovering from a haemorrhagic stroke he suffered in March this year. Neither he nor the club has said how the acetate came into his hands.
