L7 have released “Loma Linda”, a song that comes out of an unfinished demo recorded in 2003 with Janis Tanaka on bass. It can be downloaded free from the band’s website for the first week and then goes to the streaming services.

Tanaka has rejoined the line-up after the death of Jennifer Finch, who had been the band’s bassist and who died this year, aged fifty-nine, of an aggressive form of brain cancer. Before her death, Finch gave the band her blessing to go ahead with the planned farewell tour and to bring Tanaka back.

“I was searching the band’s archives and came across this unfinished track from when Janis was in the band,” Donita Sparks says. “It still sounded rather fresh and very L7, so we recorded new vocals with new lyrics and some other additional tracks and cranked it out in a couple of days ahead of this upcoming tour.”

The tour is called “The Last Hurrah” and starts today in San Diego. There are twenty-nine dates and it ends on 14 November at the Wiltern in Los Angeles; the two outside the United States are 29 October at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto and 11 November at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver. No European date has been announced.
