Black Widow Records has put “Our Lady of the Bones”, by Malombra, back into circulation as part of the archive the label has been opening on its Bandcamp. The album is from 1996 and carried the catalogue number BWRCD 009-2.

Malombra are from Genoa and were one of the names of Italian dark sound and progressive rock in the nineties. Mercy sings and plays percussion, with Fabio Casanova on keyboards and synthesisers, Matteo Ricci and Marco Galvagno on guitars, Mario Paglieri on bass, Andrea Orlando on drums, Andrea Cardinali on violin, Bernardo Donati on flute and Cristina Usai on second vocals.

There are eleven tracks, and the running times go from the three short hinges — “The Arrival”, 1:39; “D.D.D.”, 1:13; “Lost in Time, Lost in Space and in the Meaning”, 0:57 — to the long developments: “Our Lady of the Bones” runs 19 minutes and 13 seconds, “Oniria” 12:52 and “Sinister Morning” 8:33.

The label describes the combination as doom-laden riffs and atmospheric keyboard layers inside intricate progressive structures, with flamenco guitar accents. And somewhere in there, eight minutes and ten seconds for a poet: “A Song for Sylvia Plath”.
