Opeth will take an extended break once they finish the Latin American tour that began on 1 November in Santiago, Chile, and wraps up on 11 November in Mexico City. Bassist Martin Mendez told Brazilian radio station 89 A Rádio Rock.

“This is the last run for this album. So after this one, we will take a pretty long break,” he said. Asked whether the break was to rest or to make a new record, he answered: “Both. I think we need to relax first, and then recover, get some new energy, and then start thinking about new music.”

This time the band are playing full headline sets; the last time they played the region, they were supporting.

The album is “The Last Will And Testament”, their fourteenth studio record, released in November 2024 on Reigning Phoenix Music and Moderbolaget. Back in February, Mikael Åkerfeldt told Blabbermouth that touring gives him insomnia and that, for him, being on the road is “like working in a factory”. “I really want us spend more time writing music, as opposed to repeating old music,” he said.

No dates have been announced beyond Mexico City.
