Pete Sandoval has left I Am Morbid and will not play the European tour the band has announced. He said so on 30 September in a series of Instagram posts.
The drummer, who held the seat in Morbid Angel for two decades, says the reason is not the flu that laid him low on the last tour. “The truth is that, for some time now, I haven’t been feeling the same connection with these songs anymore,” he writes. I Am Morbid plays the material running from “Altars Of Madness” to “Domination”, and Sandoval points out that his own history with Morbid Angel went well past that record: “There is a much larger part of my musical legacy that I haven’t been able to represent with I Am Morbid.”
In a second post he explains that he had already told the band that tour would be his last, but that messages from fans expecting him in Europe made him think again and he was about to start rehearsing to see how he felt. “Before I had the opportunity to do that, I was informed that another drummer had already been hired for the tour.”
David Vincent’s name turns up in a third post, and there Sandoval is talking about Terrorizer rather than I Am Morbid: he confirms Terrorizer will carry on “with some changes” and that he and the singer can no longer keep working together. “David has his personality and his way of working, and I have mine. We are very different people, and professionally those differences have caused us to clash too many times.” He adds that there’s no grudge involved.
The band has not named the drummer who will play the European tour.
