Repugnant, the death metal band Tobias Forge had before Ghost, appear in “V/H/S/Mixtape”, the horror anthology the Shudder platform released on 9 October. It contains a video for “Premature Burial” with Erik Danielsson, the singer of Watain, taking the vocal part Forge originally sang.
Playing on it are Gottfrid Åhman on guitar, Gustaf Lindström on bass and Thomas Daun on drums, alongside Forge. All three had been through the band; Lindström and Daun signed under the names Carlos Sathanas and Tom Bones.
“Premature Burial” was the title track of a 2004 EP, Repugnant’s final year. They had formed in Norsborg, south of Stockholm, in 1998, and Forge signed his work there as Mary Goore. Their only full-length, “Epitome of Darkness”, came out in 2006, after they had split, and a reunion attempt in 2010 and 2011 went no further.
There is no statement. Neither Forge nor the band has said a word: the news came from viewers reading the film’s credits, and the outlets that have picked it up agree that the audio is a reworked version of the 2004 track, with Danielsson’s voice in place of Forge’s.
