The Samuel Marthe Organ Trio play Jamboree’s Sala 1 on Tuesday 6 October at 19:00. Tickets cost 18 € and the show is listed as sold out.
The band grew out of a one-off commission: a tribute concert to Fred Wesley, the trombonist who led James Brown’s and Parliament’s horn sections. It was meant to be a single night, but it produced a band and a new repertoire, now turned toward hard bop.
The organ format, with the Hammond carrying both the harmony and the bassline, comes precisely from that border between jazz and funk. Marthe’s latest release is “In Case You Missed It”, out this year.
