Söndörgő release «In Residence at Müpa» via GroundUP Music. The record documents the Hungarian band’s residency at Budapest’s Müpa between 2025 and 2026, across three concerts they programmed themselves.
Each of the three leaned a different way: folk, classical and jazz. They invited Michael League, Jay Jennings and Chris Bullock, of Snarky Puppy; singer Márta Sebestyén; and the Balanescu Quartet. What’s being released are new arrangements and moments that came out of those shows themselves, made for those concerts rather than for a record.
Once the residency wrapped up, Söndörgő toured Europe with Snarky Puppy.
The band work with traditional Balkan music using tamburicas, and GroundUP — Michael League’s label — describes them as one of the most innovative acts on the international world-music scene. They themselves place what they do between the roots of tradition, the sophistication of classical music, the energy of rock, and Bartók’s way of composing.
