Jazz

Fuga Libera · 23 October 2026
Pianists Tania Giannouli and Nik Bärtsch, a piano duo since 2023, recorded “Metakosmos” in two days, on 5 and 6 April 2025, at BASF’s Feierabendhaus in Ludwigshafen. It came out on 23 October 2026 on Fuga Libera (FUG 883), digitally, on CD and as a limited-edition double vinyl. It has eight pieces, among them “Willow Wind”, “Glass Labyrinth” and “Door 13 / Pink Athens”, all composed, arranged and performed by the two of them. The session came about at the initiative of Rainer Kern and the Enjoy Jazz festival, who also supported it. Patrick Destandeau recorded it, Giorgos Kariotis mixed it and Lars Dölle mastered it. The whole album is up on Bärtsch’s Bandcamp.
The album notes place them between classical chamber music, folk music, the ritual structures of sacred music and the freedom of jazz, with a rhythmic drive drawn from the Balkans and from struck instruments such as the cimbalom. On Bärtsch’s Bandcamp, the previous release is “Spin”, with his band Ronin (29 November 2024).
