Void Sector Zero release “Dead Space Enigma”, their first album, on 11 December through Season of Mist. The trio is guitarist Christian Muenzner (Necrophagist, ex-Obscura, ex-Alkaloid), singer and bassist Alex Weber (Revocation, Malignancy, Exist) and drummer Gabe Seeber (Decrepit Birth, Abigail Williams, Carach Angren). There are eight tracks, and the label signed them on 22 September.
The three met in 2022 while all playing in Obscura on the world tour for “A Valediction”. Muenzner explains where the project comes from: “I’ve always wanted to play tech-thrash. When I decided to start my own band in this style, I thought of Alex and Gabe. Not only are they both great players, but I knew from our time in Obscura that we had great chemistry both on and off stage.” He names Coroner, Voivod, Toxik, Martyr, Hexenhaus and Aspid as reference points.
The advance track is “Vortex Divinium”, with a video directed by Jesús Hernández. The lyric starts from Bob Lazar’s account of element 115, which he says fuelled the anti-gravity propulsion system at Area 51. “Musically, the song has a very proggy and neoclassical twist with traces of ’70s prog and jazz fusion”, Muenzner says, describing his approach to soloing with two lists that don’t often sit together: Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower on one side, Yngwie Malmsteen on the other. The album comes out on digipak and in three vinyl editions.
