Warren Haynes has released the official video for “Dreams”, the Allman Brothers Band classic, taken from “Dreams & Songs: A Symphonic Journey”. The album came out on 18 September through Evil Teen Records in the United States and Provogue and Artone Label Group in Europe.
The material dates from 2019 and was recorded over two nights at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina, the city where Haynes was born. It features the sixty-four-piece Asheville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rich Daniels, with Oteil Burbridge on bass, John Medeski on organ and keyboards, Jeff Sipe on drums, Greg Osby on saxophone and Edwin McCain and Jasmine Muhammad on backing vocals.
“I’m not in favour of marrying a symphony orchestra to rock just for the sake of it,” says Haynes. “I wanted this album to reflect what I’ve been doing for these last thirty-odd years, but in a completely unique way.”
It’s sixteen tracks spanning Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead’s repertoire, his own solo songs and two covers: “Whipping Post”, “Thorazine Shuffle”, “Shakedown Street”, “Terrapin Station”, “Black Peter”, U2’s “One” and The Band’s “It Makes No Difference”. The arrangements are credited to six people, including David Campbell and Vince Mendoza. It’s produced by Don Was and Haynes himself, and mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
The only two announced dates for this orchestral repertoire are in Nashville, on 11 and 12 March 2027, at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
