W. H. Lung have announced an indefinite hiatus. The Manchester band said so on 22 October, the same day they released “Where Will You Go?” on Melodic, “Our ten year anniversary gig at The Albert Hall on 20th November is the last in the diary”, they write, “and we don’t know when or whether we’ll be back”.

They had not planned to write anything new this year. Once the decision was made, they say, the song and the lyric came quickly: it is about the band and its history, and “it moves through the places we’ve lived and toured, from Leeds to Todmorden and from the US to Europe”. It is also for two children: “Tom and Dave have both welcomed sons into the world this year,” they write. The song speaks to Sonny and Oliver as much as to themselves and to who they were when they started.

The song will be sold only on the night, as a limited 12-inch with “High Pressure Days” on the other side. They recorded it at the Nave, where Tom now has a studio, with Matt Peel, who worked on their first releases. The band’s most recent album is “Every Inch Of Earth Pulsates”, from 2024; “Vanities”, the second, is from 2021.
