Norwegian guitarist Frode Kjekstad and American tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander perform at Jamboree on Friday 25 September, in two sets at 19:00 and 20:30. The standard rate is 26 €, 22 € for members, and the show is listed as sold out.
Rounding out the quartet are Roy Powell on Hammond organ and Frederik Villmow on drums. They come on the back of “Stars Aligned”, the album Kjekstad released this year with Alexander as lead guest, and the set moves through hard bop and organ jazz, territory the Norwegian guitarist has worked for years with unusual fidelity: a conversation with the American tradition of Grant Green and Wes Montgomery.
Alexander trained on the New York circuit, is a founding member of One for All, and has an extensive discography on the modern mainstream labels. He has a thick tone and builds his solos phrase by phrase, unhurried.
