Saxophonist Gideon Tazelaar’s quartet play Jamboree’s Sala 1 on Wednesday 7 October at seven in the evening. Tickets cost 18 €, 14 € for members, and the show is listed as sold out.
Tazelaar is Dutch and lives in New York. What he plays is hard bop with no ironic distance: the venue places him directly in line with Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins and Sonny Rollins, and Wynton Marsalis has praised his tone. The repertoire he draws from, though, is broader than that lineage would suggest, taking in Sidney Bechet, Dionne Warwick, Frank Sinatra, Milton Nascimento, Bach and Schumann.
