CHVRCHES released “Roses” on 22 September, their first new music since the 2023 single “Over”, and the first track from a record that still has neither a title nor a date. Their last full-length was “Screen Violence”, from 2021.
The song heads into dark, industrial territory, away from the danceable pop of the previous record. “This is the longest break we had ever taken between albums and when we got together to write new music, we wanted to really push ourselves and not be retreading ground we’d walked before,” says singer Lauren Mayberry.
Martin Doherty, who handles keys and production, called the record ninety per cent done: “It’s going to surprise people, and I hope it’s going to delight them and rip some faces off.”
There are two small shows on the calendar, on 26 October in Glasgow — their hometown — and the 29th in London. Tickets aren’t for sale: entry is by ballot at laylo.com, and all proceeds go to charity. Venues haven’t been made public yet.
