Enter Shikari announced on Thursday that from 31 December 2027 they will stop working as a recording and performing band. They present it as a pause rather than a split, and say they have no diary beyond that date.

“This dormancy may eventually end with an eruption back into activity, or may end with extinction,” the statement says. “We have no idea which.”

The band give three reasons: priorities have changed, they have responsibilities outside the group, and the industry puts them under strain. The conversations had started before Rou Reynolds fell ill, and the illness made them more urgent. The singer had explained it recently in an Instagram video, saying he had been “going through a lot of adversity that has brought my capacity to zero”, and talking about burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder and nervous system sensitisation.

They will use 2027 as a celebration. Three anniversaries fall in it: twenty years of “Take To The Skies”, which came out in March 2007, fifteen of “A Flash Flood Of Colour” and ten of “The Spark”. There will be new music and European and North American festivals already booked, with dates to confirm in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.

Before that, in November, they have seven arena dates in the United Kingdom: Nottingham on the 13th, Cardiff on the 14th, Hull on the 15th, Glasgow on the 18th, Manchester on the 19th and two nights at London’s Alexandra Palace, the 20th and the 21st, the second of which is sold out.

The band formed in St Albans in 1999 and have eight studio albums. The last one, “Lose Your Self”, came out without warning on 10 April this year.
