Enter Shikari announced on 1 October that from 31 December 2027 they will stop operating as a band that records and plays. The statement uses the word dormancy and leaves both doors open: “This dormancy may eventually end with an eruption back into activity, or may end with extinction.”
The band say they don’t consider themselves split up, and in the same breath that they have nothing in the diary past that date. “While we don’t think we’re ‘splitting up’, we do not have a diary that extends beyond 2027,” they write. “But after that it’ll be time to go away for a good while and see what being Rou, Rob, Rory and Chris, and not ‘Enter Shikari’, feels like.”
They explain that conversations about the band’s future were already under way before Rou Reynolds’s recent illness, and that shifting priorities, outside responsibilities and the pressures of the industry all weighed on the decision.
2027 will mark twenty years since debut album “Take To The Skies”. European and North American festival slots are booked, with further US dates in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee still to be announced. No farewell world tour is planned. Before any of that, the UK tour in November: “If that ends up being the last time some people see us, we want to make it special.”
They have also confirmed new music and a project they have just finished filming, about which they’ve given no detail.
