The five-LP box of The Smashing Pumpkins' “The Aeroplane Flies High” that UMe releases in December

The Smashing Pumpkins release a reissue of “The Aeroplane Flies High” on 18 December through UMe, as a standard five-LP box and as a limited coloured-vinyl set. The collection hasn’t been pressed on vinyl since 2013.

The set, from late 1996, brings together the expanded editions of the five singles from “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness”: “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, “1979”, “Zero”, “Tonight, Tonight” and “Thirty-Three”. They came with B-sides and with covers of The Cars, Blondie and The Cure.

Alongside it the band have reissued 1994’s “Pisces Iscariot” and 1998’s “Adore” on black vinyl. They have also put out a hits compilation from the Virgin years, “Absolute Zeros”, exclusive to record shops.

Two new certifications came with the announcement: “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” is now eleven-times platinum and “Siamese Dream” seven-times platinum. The “Rats In A Cage” tour, which began on 30 September and runs through November, plays two sets a night: one devoted to “Mellon Collie” and one spanning the career.
