Devin Townsend explained on Niels Guns’s podcast “Sixty Scales And The Truth”, published on 29 September, why he has gone back to playing live after announcing an “indefinite” break. “I split up with a partner of 36 years,” he said. “I mean, it’s like all these things have been … devastating.” He added that his dog had died.

The other half is financial. “Financial Armageddon. Yeah, we lost a ton of money off of ‘The Moth’ show,” he said. One of the companies involved went bankrupt and the projected revenue never arrived.

“The Moth” came out in May this year on InsideOut Music: twenty-four tracks of orchestral metal written with the Noord Nederlands Orkest and premiered live in March 2025. The Groningen live recording is out on 6 November on CD and Blu-ray.

The answer was the Metamorphosis tour: twenty-three solo acoustic shows across ten European countries between September and October. Two of them are in Spain, both next week, both seated and both with a Q&A session: 9 October at Revi Live in Madrid and 10 October at Salamandra in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
