The David Bowie estate launched Bowie80 on Monday, a run of events lasting all of 2027 and built around 8 January, the day he would have turned eighty.

The calendar announced so far starts in November, with a pop-up shop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and installations for the birthday weekend. In February the Morrison Hotel Gallery opens “Strange Fascination”, an exhibition of photographs from the singer’s archive split between New York and West Hollywood. In spring Copenhagen gets the premiere of “Bowie (breaking) Glass”, a symphonic show that crosses the original recordings with the music of Philip Glass. And the exhibition “David Bowie: You’re Not Alone” tours Manchester, Brighton and Hamburg through the year.

There is a commercial side too: Nordstrom is setting up three shops in Seattle, New York and Chicago with clothing by Undercover, Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith and AllSaints, and Perryscope Productions is putting out limited editions through the singer’s online store.

The announcement mentions “archival projects” and says more events will follow through the year. No unreleased music has been confirmed so far.
