Zappa Records and Universal release the fiftieth anniversary reissue of “Zoot Allures”, the album Frank Zappa put out in 1976, on 4 December. It runs to five CDs and a Blu-ray Audio.
“Zoot Allures” was originally meant to be a double LP. The box’s second CD gathers that material under the title “Night Of The Iron Sausage”, with old mixes and alternate versions and with tracks that ended up elsewhere, among them “Sleep Dirt”, “The Ocean Is The Ultimate Solution” and “Filthy Habits”.
The first CD is the original album in a 2026 remaster, with three additions: a studio outtake of the title track, “Muff Diver” and “Son Of Canard Du Jour”. The third and fourth are a concert recorded in Paris in March 1976, from “Stink-Foot” and “The Poodle Lecture” through to “Muffin Man” and “San Ber’dino”. The fifth, “Bonus Allures II”, collects radio ads, the mono DJ singles and mix outtakes.
The Blu-ray carries the album in Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 at 24-bit/48 kHz, and in PCM stereo at 24-bit/192 kHz.
