The Ocean have released «Milk Of My Dreams», with Thorsten Quaeschning, of Tangerine Dream, on synthesizers. It’s a preview from «Solaris», the record out 25 September via Pelagic Records: eight tracks and close to seventy minutes.
«I decided to play a lot of the sequences by hand so I could react faster to the time-signature changes,» says Quaeschning. The band highlight his command of electronic music, synthesizers and sound design.
«Holocene», the 2023 record, ended with an exhausted, uninhabitable Earth. «Solaris» follows a rescue ship fleeing it, with Vasco da Gama, Magellan, Drake, Amundsen, Scott and Rasmussen all making appearances along the way.
The line-up has changed. The one behind «Holocene» broke up after years of touring: singer Loïc Rossetti and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt played their farewell shows at Hellfest 2025, and drummer Paul Seidel had already left before that.
Alongside founding guitarist Robin Staps, bassist Mattias Hägerstrand and drummer Jordi Farré, there are now two new voices, Lane Shi and Enrico Tiberi, and two new guitarists, Emmanuel Jessua and Marco Gennaro.
The Ocean headline, alongside Soen, the eighth edition of Be Prog! My Friend, on 25 and 26 September at La Carpa in Poble Espanyol.
