Thundermother release “Mothers Of Thunder” on 5 February 2027. It is the Swedish four-piece’s seventh album and their first for Napalm Records.
The first single is called “Bimbo Boost” and it runs the riff from Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” backwards. The lyric is about the pressure on women in music to look flawless on stage, a demand that passes men by. “It’s damn hard being a woman,” the band say. “We have to do our makeup, straighten our hair, reverse aging, and always look our best. It’s exhausting. We wish we had a magic guitar booster pedal that instantly did all of that for us!”
On “Restless”, singer Linnéa Vikström Egg sings an argument between a father and a daughter — his worries, her longing for freedom — with her actual father: Thomas Vikström, of Therion. The title track opens the record and the band frame it as a call to mothers, daughters, sisters and partners.
The line-up is completed by Filippa Nässil, Joan Massing and Majsan Lindberg. The album follows a run of shows opening for Scorpions and Judas Priest, appearances at Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze and Sweden Rock, and their first live album, “Live’N’Alive”, released this year.
