Rock clàssic
Little Angels publiquen el «Big Bad & Back EP» el 6 de novembre. Són cinc talls i és el primer material nou dels de Scarborough des del 1994. Hi torna la formació clàssica sencera: Toby Jepson a la veu, Bruce Dickinson a la guitarra —el de Little Angels, que no és el cantant d’Iron Maiden—, Jim Dickinson als teclats, Mark Plunkett al baix i Mark Richardson a la bateria.
«This was never in the plan», diuen: «Toby started writing new ideas and while we were rehearsing the set for the tour, we started to jam around this new material, and it just felt great.» I la condició: «We would never make a new record unless we felt we still had something to say… and it turns out we do.»
Van gravar a Chapel Studios, a Lincolnshire, tocant tots cinc alhora en una sala i sense sobreposar-hi res. La mescla és de Mike Fraser, que va gravar i mesclar «Permanent Vacation» i «Pump» d’Aerosmith als Little Mountain de Vancouver, l’estudi on la banda havia mesclat «Jam», el disc que els va portar al número u britànic. L’estudi ja no hi és; Fraser sí. «We encouraged him to evoke the spirit of those great records that he mixed back in the day», diu el grup.
El problema, per a Jepson, eren les lletres: «How do you take what Little Angels represented back then and bring it into the modern world with guys that are now in their mid-50s?» La sortida: «This wasn’t about youth anymore — of course not; it’s about reflecting on where we had come from, and the kind of people we are now.»
Els cinc talls són «All For One», «Hero (That Was Then, This Is Now)», «Small Town Boys», «You Want Love» i «Raised To The Ground»; del segon ja n’hi ha vídeo amb lletra. Al novembre fan setze dates pel Regne Unit i Irlanda, de Dublín el 9 a Londres el 29: l’última gira va ser el 2012, i el comiat del Royal Albert Hall, divuit anys abans.
