Gates Of Kiev release their self-titled debut record on 2 October via The Laser’s Edge. It’s forty minutes spread across four tracks, already previewed with the video for «Silhouette».
The trio is organist Tomas Mesman and drummer Hessel Braat, childhood friends, and bassist Eszl De Vois, who comes from Amsterdam’s underground psychedelic scene. The name comes from the piece on Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s «Pictures At An Exhibition».
The record was recorded with Ahmad Mansour at Ijland Studio in Amsterdam, and mixed and mastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo, of White Willow, in Norway. The cover art is by Italian illustrator Mont Doom.
«It’s the shortest track on the record and follows a more conventional shape than the rest,» Mesman says of «Silhouette». The second half of the record, he explains, is written around mental health. The video was made by the drummer.
